Located at Downtown Dubai.

Assia In Wok serves up a wide variety of Asian food. Recently opened up in the gorgeous streets of Downtown, it’s the place to be if you want some good authentic Asian food, like Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Indian to name a few.

Rating: 8 Golden Nuggets

This place makes it to the top of my list because of its extremely comfortable setup and feel. We were given an option of sitting in or outdoors, we picked the latter and completely enjoyed it. The ambience is just fabulous. During winters, with a crisp cool breeze and a hot soup of Tom Yum, under the sky and by the lake, doesn’t get better! Absolutely loved the lighting and the music, not too over the top and just right.

Golden Treasure: Steamed Shrimp Dim Sum

Bite Board:

1. Steamed Shrimp Dim Sum [AED 29]
These dim sums were really good! Soft, great flavour and taste.

2. Steamed Chicken Shaomai [AED 29]
Again, wonderful stuffing of vegetables and chicken, with a soft outer layer that really holds the whole thing together. Great taste and good quantity.

3. Prawn Tempura [AED 34]
The Tempura was OK. Felt like I may have had better elsewhere but these were good too. The batter seemed a bit too heavy and chewy rather than being light and fluffy. The Shrimp stuffing was well cooked and soft.

4. Fried Calamari [AED 29]
The Fried Calamari was too chewy, seemed like they were over cooked a tad bit. They were too crunchy for my liking and definitely not the dish of the night.

5. Nasi-Goreng [AED 55]
A nice medium sized portion served with two skewers of grilled chicken satay and an egg on top of the rice, in typical Nasi-Goreng fashion. Overall it had good taste and flavours.

6. Sweet Mango Sticky Rice [AED 24]
For dessert we ordered this, it tasted alright but could have been better. The rice was too mushy and heavy for dessert, but may appeal to those who prefer a thicker paste like sticky rice pudding.

Wonderful staff and servers. Definitely made us feel welcome. They offered us different types of sauces to go along with each dish we ordered and got them in tiny servings for each one of us, something I don’t see too often in other restaurants, where usually you have a common bowl of sauce that’s to share amongst all of us.

Cash Flow:
Total Outflow was just right for the great food, service and overall experience!

Circling Back:

Will probably head back for more laid back Asian food nights! Also since we tried just Thai this time, will head back to try their other cuisines.

Have any of you been to Assia In Wok ? How was your experience?

Is the place scrumptious enough?
