When it comes to street food, we love the famous Mumbai dish, Ragda Pattice, which is a must try! It is the healthiest combination of vegetables, spices, chutneys and is colorful too (if you are a spicy food lover like us, the spicy chili coriander chutney will make your mouth and eyes water).
Even though the cooking and preparations took us time, yet every bite of it was worth the wait!
So, here is a stepwise method of making them without booking a ticket to Mumbai.
Ingredients
250 gms dried white peas
3 medium sized potatoes
1 medium sized onion, finely chopped
2 green chilis, finely chopped
1/2 inch ginger, finely chopped
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp cumin coriander powder
3 tbsp oil
Salt to taste
2 tbsp chili coriander chutney
1 tsp date tamarind chutney
For Garnish
1 medium sized tomato and onion, chopped
Coriander leaves
Method
Soak peas in warm water overnight.
Cook the peas in a pressure cooker for 5-7 mins till cooked and keep aside.
Boil the potatoes till done. Let them cool.
Peel the potatoes and add salt. Mash them and mix well.
Make small balls from the potato mixture and flatten them.
Add a little oil to each pattice and shallow fry in a heated girdle/tawa till golden brown on both sides. Remove on a kitchen towel.
In a pot, add oil and heat it on a low flame. Add onion, chilis, ginger and sauté till onions turn pink.
Add turmeric, cumin coriander powder and boiled peas to the pot. Add salt to taste and cook for 4-5 mins.
In a serving plate, add 3-4 pattice and pour the peas mixture over it and add the chutneys. Garnish well with tomatoes, onions and coriander. Serve hot.
