A delicious crispy fish fry recipe handed down from my mother and she from hers. The best part of hand me down recipes is that they are a beautiful way to reminiscence the age old family traditions and carry it on to the future. Without further adieu, we shall start with the Red Masala Fried Pomfret recipe.
Serving Size: 2 persons
Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 15 mins
INGREDIENTS
2 washed and cleaned pomfrets
1 tsp Ginger Garlic paste
1 tsp Cumin powder
2 tbsp Oil
1 tsp Turmeric powder
1 tbsp Red chilli powder
1 tbsp Kashmiri red chilli powder
1 tsp Black pepper powder
1 tbsp Gram flour
2 caps White vinegar
Salt to taste
METHOD
Chop the fish into 4 sections horizontally or depending on the size of the fish 3 sections would suffice.
To the chopped fish add the masalas in order starting with the chilli powders, turmeric, cumin, pepper, salt, ginger garlic paste and white vinegar.
Add the gram flour to this marinated fish and set aside for 5 to 10 minutes.
In a wide flat pan, add oil and heat it on medium flame. Once the oil is nice and hot, add the slices of fish in the hot oil.
Keep a close watch on the fish while it cooks, once you’ve noticed the side facing the oil has cooked and formed a layer of crispy skin, you can flip it to the other side. It should take about 5 minutes each side depending on your flame.
Once the fish is crispy throughout, remove from the pan and it’s ready to eat!
Meal Tip: It tastes the best when combined with a portion of rice and dal. We’ll be uploading a dal recipe very soon. So stay tuned.
